Bungie’s Pete Parsons Steps Down After 23 Years, Justin Truman Takes Over

Pete Parsons, Bungie’s longtime CEO and studio lead, has revealed he will depart the company following over two decades of service. Effective immediately, Justin Truman, previously Chief Development Officer, will assume leadership of the studio.

The transition was disclosed via an official Bungie article, where Parsons expressed confidence in Truman’s ability to guide the company’s future. During Parsons’ tenure since 2015, the studio experienced milestones like Destiny 2’s breakout success but also faced controversies, employee cuts, and internal disputes. Critics have frequently cited executive decisions under Parsons’ leadership as contributing factors to organizational challenges.

This moment calls for fresh perspectives to steer Bungie forward,” stated Parsons, emphasizing the need for renewed direction.

Truman, reflecting on his 15-year journey from engineering roles to executive leadership, reiterated Bungie’s core mission: “We craft universes that bring people together.” He highlighted collaborative efforts with players, adding, “Our best work emerges when we build alongside our community—delivering experiences that honor their dedication and outpace expectations.”

The incoming leader also acknowledged recent difficulties, vowing to prioritize team support and player-focused development. “These worlds depend on your engagement to flourish,” Truman remarked, addressing both internal teams and external audiences. While skepticism remains about whether leadership changes will resolve longstanding issues, many await tangible improvements under Truman’s stewardship.
