How to obtain and utilize Unstable Cores in Destiny 2

With the arrival of Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, the advancement system has been completely reworked. A novel material, Unstable Cores, now governs your ability to increase Power levels. Securing early Cores poses a challenge, but accumulation simplifies significantly during progression. Explore the mechanics below.

Acquiring Unstable Cores in Destiny 2

Rewards Pass Unstable Core Collection

Primary acquisition methods include premium Reward Track tiers and salvaging superior gear. Equipment with Power ratings exceeding 200 displays azure numeric indicators with plus modifiers. Higher values yield more Cores—for instance, dismantling 213+ items grants 112 units versus 18 from 202+ gear. Prioritize recycling unused Tier 1-2 items.

Salvaging High-Tier Gear

Utilizing Unstable Cores

Combine these Cores with Enhancement Cores to upgrade lower-tier equipment. Infusing 200-Power armor with 205+ pieces consumes varying Core amounts based on the gap. Narrower intervals reduce costs—upgrading from 213 to 214 costs two Cores versus 29 for a 10-to-214 jump.

Armor Enhancement Process

Note that Cores expire seasonally, resetting maximum Power to 200. Reacquisition becomes necessary for tackling elite challenges in subsequent seasons.
