Nintendo Switch 2’s Splatoon 3 Upgrade Demonstrates Dramatic Power Boost with 5-6x Resolution Gains in Select Scenarios

Splatoon 3’s enhanced performance on the Nintendo Switch 2 showcases the console’s technical leap over the original model, delivering transformative visual and gameplay upgrades.

Recent evaluations by Digital Foundry compared upgraded versions of flagship Switch titles like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on the new hardware. While most games saw moderate enhancements, Splatoon 3’s optimizations demonstrate the system’s capabilities most dramatically.

Docked mode now renders at native 4K resolution compared to the original Switch’s dynamic 1080p, with certain scenarios jumping from 864p to full 2160p – a fourfold pixel increase. Performance gains extend to the hub area, maintaining a consistent 60 FPS where the predecessor struggled. Portable mode operates at fixed 1080p/60 FPS, a marked upgrade over the older hardware’s variable 720p output.

These improvements underscore the Switch 2’s ability to enhance both patched and unmodified titles through raw hardware gains. While the screen retains similar specifications, systemic upgrades across processing power and thermal design contribute to sustained performance, as verified through technical assessments.

Nintendo’s next-gen console has launched across all major markets.
