Screenwriter Rob Yescombe, known for scripting films such as Outside the Wire and Jackpot! alongside games including RiME, has acquired ownership of The Invisible Hours following Tequila Works’ closure and subsequent intellectual property auction.
After winning bidding rights for the franchise, Yescombe announced intentions to revive the virtual reality title with upgraded visuals for newer devices like PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest 3. He also revealed potential plans for adapting the narrative-driven mystery into a filmed format, though details remain unconfirmed regarding its medium.
“Creating The Invisible Hours was magical,” Yescombe stated publicly. “Nothing compares to that experience. Seven years later, players still message me about its impact on them. With VR adoption rising exponentially since 2018, revisiting this project feels timely.”
The writer-producer now seeks collaborators to help resurrect the game, which faces an uncertain future after Tequila Works dissolved. A successful partnership could salvage the IP from its post-auction limbo.
Though modern VR audiences dwarf 2017’s numbers, the technology continues struggling to achieve projected mainstream appeal. Industry analysts note extended cycles of unmet expectations, with 2025 marking yet another year of unfulfilled “VR revolution” predictions.
Time will tell whether Yescombe attracts developers for the remaster or secures production deals for the adaptation. Either path could breathe new life into the cult-classic mystery while testing VR’s evolving commercial viability.
