Since its debut earlier this month (or earlier for premium early-access participants), Dune: Awakening fans have already begun speculating about future expansions. Though significant updates remain distant, Ignasis Miró Sastre, Funcom’s community lead, hinted that new zones resembling Hagga Basin will arrive in forthcoming patches.
On the game’s official Discord (via Eurogamer), Sastre stated, “Joel hinted previously that we aim to expand with additional Hagga-inspired landscapes in later updates.” Serving as the introductory region, Hagga Basin allows players to adapt to Arrakis’ harsh climate before venturing into riskier PvP territories like the deep desert.
This initial zone has become a favorite among players for its balanced design, offering a safer environment compared to the unpredictable challenges of later areas. Community discussions (Reddit thread) highlight its appeal, with many hoping new regions will replicate its curated exploration loop.
Regarding updates, Sastre clarified: “New content will mostly arrive through free patches. Major expansions might carry a cost, but standard updates prioritize accessibility. Optional DLCs will help sustain development—you know, basics like electricity and questionable pizza toppings.”
This aligns with Funcom’s recent Reddit AMA, where the team confirmed PvE expansions every 3-4 months: “Major releases will consistently bundle narrative and cooperative gameplay additions, synchronized with DLC launches.” However, the studio emphasized flexibility over rigid roadmaps in another AMA response.
Currently, the game thrives with a peak of 189,333 concurrent players, signaling robust early engagement. As developers refine their post-launch strategy, the Arrakis community eagerly anticipates how these updates will shape their survival saga.
