In the sci-fi adventure The Alters, players navigate a harsh alien world populated by divergent clones of protagonist Jan. These counterparts, known as Alters, share Jan’s memories but exhibit radically different personalities. Miner Jan stands out with unique struggles tied to his psychological and physical trauma.
Miner Jan’s Dilemma

This troubled clone experiences phantom limb syndrome and chronic pain from a non-existent injury. His deteriorating condition leads to requests for painkillers, eventually culminating in unavoidable lethal accidents without intervention.
Resolving the Crisis

- Surgical Intervention: Players can opt for amputation once the choice unlocks. Successful recovery requires a prepared medical facility – failure to provide care proves fatal.
- Technological/Biological Solutions: Collaborating with Scientist Jan unlocks prosthetic limb research, while Technician Jan offers biological regeneration through serum development. Both approaches permanently resolve the limb issue.
Post-recovery, Miner Jan develops obsessive work tendencies, requiring management through the Contemplation Room. Regular dialogue after therapy sessions gradually improves his mental health, preventing tragic outcomes. Successfully guiding his rehabilitation unlocks the “Vulnerability” achievement.
